Last Mile are proud to announce that they are now supporting Tees River Rescue, an independent rescue charity based on the River Tees.
Tees River Rescue is responsible for patrolling the 26.7 miles of the river year-round, especially during the summer months when river users are high. They provide education, support, and reassurance, and are also available 24/7 for any emergency search and rescue requirements on the river.
Last Mile has chosen to support this charity in memory of Gloria Clarke.
80-year-old Gloria, whose family member works for Last Mile, tragically entered the river on New Year's Eve last year. The teams of volunteers worked tirelessly in hazardous winter conditions each day and did not lose heart in their search. Gloria was finally found the following March, providing much-needed closure to Gloria's family.
Tees River Rescue is a non-profit charity that relies purely on volunteers and support from the public and local businesses. Due to the personal connection, Last Mile feels that supporting them is a nice way of thanking them on behalf of Gloria's family along with acknowledging and supporting the fundamental work that they do.
Donations enable them to purchase First Aid equipment, life jackets, helmets, and fuel, along with maintaining the boats and Last Mile is extremely pleased to make a contribution towards these.
In addition to this, Last Mile will be organizing an annual fundraising event to raise additional funds and will also be considering other ways of offering support.
