Last Mile launched it's 'Warehouse to Wheels' scheme last year in a bid to encourage its existing staff to pursue a career as a Heavy Goods Vehicle Driver.   

Our Warehouse to Wheels programme is aimed at existing staff who have a passion for driving and who would like to progress within the company.   

As the HGV side of the business rapidly grows for us its an obvious place to look within our existing work force and particularly our current drivers.  

In collaboration with our training provider JK Transport, we have built a programme that provides the foundation, knowledge, skills and experience for the role of a HGV Driver.

The offer of training and a guaranteed job driving HGV vehicles makes it a great opportunity to not only progress our existing drivers careers, but to take them in a new direction. This has already been an attractive proposition with 3 of our current workforce passing last year.

In 2022 we are aiming to put 1 of our existing staff members through the Warehouse to Wheels programme each month.

We are excited to announce that Michael is our first successful team member of the year, passing first time today on the 31st January.

Michael has worked for Last Mile for 3 years within the Home Delivery team and was keen to progress his career with us. He is really looking forward to now joining the HGV side of the business.

Jamie Thornton, Class 1 driver

I started my career as a European coach driver but unfortunately Covid hit and brought the Travel industry to a halt.

I joined Last Mile in February 2021 initially on the 2 x Man Home Delivery team but I was always interested in getting my Class 1 license. After 4 months Last Mile gave me the opportunity to get my Class 2 license and then my Class 1 shortly after. Both of my training courses were with JK Transport who I would highly recommend. The training process was really straight forward with friendly staff who are there for you all throughout your training. 

I am now tramping Monday to Friday doing a variety of work which I love and I cant thank Last Mile enough for helping me get to where I am today. Last Mile are a great company to work for and I am really looking forward to being a part of their team as they grow.
